All Ask Computer and Internet Glossary

Adware

Adware is (usually) free software that displays, downloads or plays some kind of advertising during its operation and use, or after the software has been installed. This allows the author of the software to gain remuneration for his/her work and also the widest distribution of the software because it is free. Many users of free software can accept a limited amount of adware as the price for use of the free software. Ad ware is not the same as spyware.
