Broadband refers to a high-speed connection to the Internet with the ability to handle multiple streams of data over the same telephone line. Broadband connections are typically 256 kilobytes per second (KBps) or faster, compared to a dial-up connection using a modem and the 'phone line which will have a maximum speed of 56 KBps. Broadband includes DSL, ADSL and cable modem services. Broadband is frequently used as a general term to describe a high-speed internet connection.
