All Ask Computer and Internet Glossary
ISP
ISP is short for Internet Service Provider and is a company, usually, that supplies access to the Internet. This is almost always a paid-for service and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will often also provide the means for you to access the Internet, for instance a Router. An ISP can supply dial up access or broadband access. Rarely, and usually for lots more money an ISP can provide a direct, fibre optic connection to the Internet. Increasingly, ISP's provide more added-value services such as Firewalls, Privacy Services and Online email and Webspace.
